About Us
Tai Chi Chuan, Chen style.
Throughout history mankind has managed to live in conflict with neighboring tribes, civilizations or nations over resources or merely the lust for power. In response Peoples developed means to defend themselves. In China this led to the creation of an empty hand fighting system which came to be called Tai Chi, or Tai Chi Chuan with the oldest form dating back to the 1400's and originating in the Chen village.
Although there are four other main derivative forms, each with a slightly different focus, Chen Style Tai Chi is the original stylea and the focus of our school. Tai Chi is considered to be an internal Art based on principles which govern the form as opposed to other "hard" forms created elsewhere in Asia where form follows function.
Why Tai Chi?
Focus. Balance. Flexibility. Cardio vascular health. Mental health. Disease mitigation*. And all that for maybe 20 minutes per day!
There are various studies by e.g. the Mayo Clinic and Harvard touting these very benefits of practicing Tai Chi to a persons health.
In addition, once learned, It can be practiced solo or in a group, indoors or outside and it does not require specialized equipment or clothing.
